Welcome to LittleLEC - A Fun Competition for Drivers of Small Model Steam Locomotives

LittleLec_061

LittleLEC is an annual locomotive efficiency competition for drivers of small locomotives weighing less than 50lb dry. These are much more challenging to drive than larger ones, and so this competition was devised by Peter Langridge some 10 years ago to enable owners of small locomotives to take part in an IMLEC style efficiency competition.

The competition is usually held in June at a different Model Engineering Society's track each year, up, down, and across the country to allow a different set of locomotive owners to take part without having to travel great distances. This various tabs on this Home Page will take you to a comprehensive set of information about the history of the competition, its nature, and the efficiency calculations. The organisers would like to encourage owners of small locomotives to take up the challenge of entering this event.

Announcing LittleLEC 2019—15th and 16th June 2019

This year, the Bracknell Railway Society will be hosting the competition over the weekend of 15th and 16th June 2019 at the Society’s track in Jock’s Lane, Bracknell, which can accommodate 31⁄2”, and 5” gauge locomotives.

Location - Bracknell is a Berkshire town situated between Wokingham and Ascot and with good access from both the M3 and M4 motorways. The track is in Jock’s Lane park which is located off the B3018 Binfield Road. Use postcode RG12 2BH for Sat Navs (please note Jock’s Lane has a barrier part way down it, there is NO access off the B3408 Wokingham Road.)

The Track - The track is steel section and is 1154 feet in length. A document showing the profile of the track can be downloaded here: http://www.littlelec.co.uk/documents/Bracknell_Track_Profile.pdf.

The competition will be run clockwise which is the normal running direction. A gradient profile will be sent to all competitors. The steaming bays have a 12v supply for steam raising blowers, the water supply is normally rain water but mains water is available if competitors so wish. Further information about the Bracknell Railway Society can be found of their website http://www.bracknellrailwaysociety.co.uk.gridhosted.co.uk.

Places to stay - There are no camping or caravan facilities at the track, but there are plenty of motels etc in the area. In all cases it is suggested that you make a booking or reservation as soon as you have decided to compete or just want to come along.
